When the Trumpet Call of God Sounds

When the Trumpet Call of God Sounds

Where were you when JFK was assassinated, when Armstrong set foot on the moon, or when the planes struck the twin towers?  We love to mark historic events with where we were in that particular moment of time.  Where will you be when the trumpet call of God sounds?

Ever since I was a young boy, I had a deep inner feeling I would be on the earth during the last days.  Back then I wasn’t quite sure how such a young boy could be filled with such a thought.  Now I know, it was the Holy Spirit.

I’m not setting a date for Jesus’ second coming.  I will say with a high level of confidence we are living in the season of the last days.  Recently, the hands of time on the prophetic clock started moving a lot faster.  The mark of the beast is on the table.  Not only is the mark of the beast technology available, but the application, enforcement and talk of this system are front and center.  I heard on the news recently a push for citizens who have not received the Covid-19 vaccine and proof of having received this vaccine (a certain mark) should not be able to go to work, buy, or sell goods.

I say this not to scare you friends, but to warn you.  Jesus’ words in Matthew 24, “but as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.  For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so will the coming of the Son of Man be.  Then two men will be in the field: one will be taken and the other left.  Two women will be grinding at the mill: one will be taken and the other left.  Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming.  But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into.  Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.”

Just as people at the time had no idea JFK was going to be assassinated on November 22, 1963 or that two planes were going to strike the twin towers on September 11, 2001.  We will not know when the trumpet call of God will be blown to call his faithful followers home, but that day is fast approaching.

As followers and believers in the one true God, we should be compelled by the love of Jesus to live holy lives.  We should not try to earn our own way into His presence through our good works and deeds.  We only love Him because He first loved us.  The LORD did all the work, and He gets all the glory.  We cannot earn, buy, or presume the right to be pure in His sight.  We are washed and saved only by the precious blood of Jesus Christ!  This pure love of God does not excuse us to complacently wait for heaven’s glory.

Just as Olympic athletes prepare their bodies for a competition that occurs every four years, we as followers of Christ should be compelled by His grace to prepare our hearts for an eternity with Him.  This is done through a relationship with Jesus by daily reading God’s Word, praying, and spending time in worship of our LORD and Savior, Jesus Christ.  Strong healthy relationships are built through consistency over time.  Not calling on God when we need something, but through a steady and regular interaction of serving Him, loving Him, and caring for the things that matter most to the LORD on a daily basis.   Obedience to God and His Word and loving our fellow man.

The apostles lived their daily lives after Jesus’ ascension with the mindset of His imminent return.  It’s a belief that compelled them and believers today to live holy lives for the LORD, and puts us in the proper frame of mind to spread the truth of the gospel with gentleness, truth, passion, and love wherever we go.  So when that trumpet call of God sounds to call His faithful followers home, we will be found worthy and faithful by the blood of the Jesus, our sacrificial Lamb, to enter the LORD’s presence and partake in the Marriage Feast of the Lamb.

Until we meet again – love like Jesus!
